About this studio
New England Academy of Dance (NEAD) at 231 Main Street in New Canaan, Connecticut, is a pre-professional ballet training program for students aged roughly 2.5 to 18, led by artistic directors Frances Ortiz, Ginna Ortiz and Ted Thomas. The school follows a graded, age-divided curriculum based on the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum, with Vaganova method introduced in the Senior Pre-Professional Division and Cecchetti also covered. Classes span classical ballet technique, pre-pointe, pointe, variations, pas de deux (partnering), character dance, modern, contemporary, lyrical and strength-and-stretch. Students progress from Tiny Dancer and Pre-Ballet through Primary, Junior Pre-Professional and Senior Pre-Professional divisions, with placement by audition at higher levels.
