About this studio
The Miami Valley Folk Dancers (MVFD) are a recreational international folk dance club in Dayton, Ohio, formed in the autumn of 1952 out of a City of Dayton Department of Recreation and Parks class. The group dances every Thursday evening and on second Sunday afternoons at the Michael Solomon Pavilion at the Community Golf Course, describing its purpose as folk dancing for fun, exercise and cultural enlightenment. Its repertoire draws on international and Balkan traditions, and dances are taught during sessions so newcomers can join in; non-members pay a small door fee while members attend free. MVFD also hosts weekend workshops with visiting instructors, keeps an archive of its history, recordings and past programs, and is a member of the Miami Valley Dance Council.
