About this studio
Lawton Ballet Theatre is a dance and performing arts school in Lawton, in southwest Oklahoma, led by artistic director Katie Barnett Veenhuizen, an ABT Affiliate Teacher, with Scott Veenhuizen as managing director. Its ballet program follows the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum, an eight-level, age-appropriate syllabus, with pointe open to students aged at least 10 who have teacher approval. Beyond ballet the school teaches tap, jazz, modern (Horton and Graham technique), lyrical, hip hop and acro, plus a theatre track covering acting, musical theatre, stage combat, stage makeup and technical theatre. Enrollment runs year-round. Performance opportunities include The Nutcracker each December, a spring recital in May, two musicals a season, and competition work for LBT Company dancers. The studio states a commitment to classes for differently abled students.
