Keaney Janet School of Dancing

Janet Keaney's School of Dancing has operated in Westwood, Massachusetts for over 50 years, offering what it describes as a warm, personalised atmosphere. Miss Janet teaches students from age 3 through high school in Ballet, Tap, Pointe, Modern and Jazz Funk. Preschool classes introduce the fundamentals of ballet and tumbling through creative expression. Ballet covers barre and center floor work with French terminology, proper technique and the development of poise and grace, while Pointe is restricted to ballet students aged eleven or over with at least three years of training and faculty permission. Tap emphasises coordination, timing, musicality and rhythmic clarity; Jazz ranges from traditional to contemporary; and Modern explores Graham, Horton, Limon and other techniques. A Jazz Funk / Hip Hop class bridges club and professional styles. Advanced students can join a student teacher training program as demonstrators, student teachers and teacher's assistants, and the studio stages an annual recital.
