Joans Studio Dance

Joan's Studio of Dance at 110 S. Gay Street in Susanville, California has trained dancers of all ages for over 40 years; owner Joan Zuehlke opened her first school in Redding in 1957 and brought it to Susanville in 1973. It is a Cecchetti Certified Ballet School and Zuehlke is a Cecchetti Council of America fellow holding an advanced professional teachers certificate. Ballet runs through the Cecchetti syllabus: Primary I-III for ages 4-9, Grades I-IV from age 9, professional Grades V-VII and Diploma, plus non-syllabus classes and beginning, intermediate and advanced pointe, which students must earn through demonstrated strength and maturity. The studio also offers jazz from age 5, hip hop from age 5, tap (including a ladies' tap class), character and a combo/conditioning class. The dance year runs September to June and closes with a family-friendly annual recital held over two nights at the Veteran's Hall. The studio stresses a policy of kindness, injury prevention and a viewing window for parents, and is a vendor with Mt. Lassen Charter School.
