About this studio
Hokule'a Academy of Polynesian Arts is a Chicago dance company and school specializing in Hawaiian hula and 'Ori Tahitian dance, based at 5180 N Elston Avenue at the corner of Elston and Foster. Founded in 2010, it presents itself as bringing an authentic representation of Polynesian cultures to Chicago and spreading the Aloha spirit. The academy runs graded classes with a focus on technical skill and execution, along with guest artist workshops and twice-yearly Te Mana Ora master-class seminars taught by visiting Polynesian artists. Its performance arm appears at festivals, park district events and public shows across Chicagoland, and it has worked with the Chicago Park District, DCASE, O'Hare and Midway airports and the Chicago Cubs. Prospective students can schedule a trial class.
