About this studio
Georgia's School of Dance is at 142 E. Grand Avenue in Escondido, California, and describes itself as the oldest dance studio in North County, teaching children and adults for over 60 years. It was founded in 1953 by Georgia Copeland, who began performing professionally at eight, was chosen as an MGM Starlet at seventeen and appeared in movie musicals alongside performers including Fred Astaire and Lucille Ball; she personally trained more than 40 professional dancers. After Georgia's death in 1998 the studio was taken over by Sue Gilson, who had worked with her for more than 25 years. The school offers ballet, pointe, tap, children's combo classes, boys' classes, jazz, hip hop, acrobatics, lyrical, ballroom, pilates and musical theatre for ages 18 months to adult.
