About this studio
Capitol Movement Inc (CMI) is a Washington DC dance nonprofit founded in October 2005 and now in its 22nd season, having marked its 20th anniversary in 2025. It offers studio classes and performance opportunities for adults, teens and children, teaching hip hop, jazz, contemporary and other styles, and states that its programs are open to everyone regardless of skill level or socioeconomic barriers. The organization runs three companies: CMI Kidz for dancers aged 5-12, CMI Apprentices, a pre-professional company for teenagers aged 12-17, and an adult professional company for dancers 18 and over, all filled through open auditions held alongside its workshops. Alongside open classes, CMI provides master classes, workshops, an outreach program, scholarships and community engagement, as well as teaching and choreography opportunities for artists. It is a registered 501(c)(3) supported by sponsors including the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
