Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee is a courtroom drama rooted in the real-life 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial, in which a high school teacher is put on trial for teaching Darwin's theory of evolution in a Tennessee classroom. The case draws two of the country's most formidable attorneys and becomes a national spectacle, sparking debate about intellectual freedom, education, and the balance of faith and progress. Originally written as a response to the anti-communist hysteria of the McCarthy era, the play's themes remain as relevant today as when it was written. The production is directed by Harry Friedman and features a cast including Allen Matthews, Nelson Wilson, Scott Bardin, and Kathleen McNamara, among others.
