Dallas Theater Center Presents JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, 6/22-8/5

Dallas Theater Center presents Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre at the AT&T Performing Arts Center June 22 – Aug. 5. DTC Associate Artistic Director Joel Ferrell will direct and choreograph a fresh retelling of this family-friendly musical staring Sydney James Harcourt as Joseph and Dallas favorite Liz Mikel as the Narrator.

"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a truly epic story of jealousy, betrayal, reconciliation and forgiveness, told through the magic of a Webber's witty and dazzling score," says Ferrell. "The joy of creating Joseph for DTC audiences is to deliver a fresh and wildly inventive production, allowing audiences to hear the story in a brand new way. Our goal is to capture the audience, no matter what age, from the moment the story begins."

Sydney James Harcourt returns to Dallas Theater Center as Joseph. Audiences will remember him as Tinman from last summer's hit production The Wiz. Starring alongside Harcourt is Brierley Resident Acting Company Member and Dallas favorite Liz Mikel as the Narrator. This is Mikel's first production at DTC after returning from a critically acclaimed run as Hetaira in Broadway's Lysistrata Jones.

Other members of the Brierley Resident Acting Company appearing in the production are Chamblee Ferguson (Tigers Be Still, The Tempest) as Jacob, Potiphar and Pharaoh; Tiffany Hobbs (A Christmas Carol, Cabaret) as Wife and member of the ensemble; and Christie Vela (God of Carnage, The Beauty Plays) as Jacob's wife and Potiphar's wife. Rounding out the cast are Josh A. Dawson as Zebulon, Baker and ensemble; Jeremy Dumont as Gad and ensemble; Kayla Grizzard as Wife and ensemble; Jacob Gutierrez as Dan and ensemble; Shannon Hucker as Wife and ensemble; Rashan James Ii as Naphthali and ensemble; Tiffany Mann as Wife and ensemble; JP Moraga as Levi and ensemble; Bob Reed as Reuben and Butler; Jamard Richardson as Judah and ensemble; Alex Ross as Issachar and ensemble; Michael Anthony Sylvester as Asher and ensemble; Liam Taylor as Benjamin and ensemble; Ben Villaseñor as Benjamin and ensemble; Kent Zimmerman as Simeon and ensemble.

Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts members of the youth ensemble include Alyssa Franks, Chavis Humphrey, Tanner Murray and Ruby Westfall. Additional members of the youth ensemble are Chris Adkins, Tatiana Angustia, Madie Buckles Kaitlyn Cedillo, Maya Cravy, Avery Davis, Elizabeth Drake, Jace Duncan, John Franklin, Victoria Gilchrist, Caleb Glaspie, Colby Glaspie, Kennedy Gray, Christopher Hernandez, Nathan May, Patricia Meza, Lily McCollum, Manon McCollum, Ainsley Neitzel, Madeleine Norton, Jonah Ortiz, Mora Elena Pharr, Tru Ramsey, Michelle Raybourn, Paloma Renteria, Soleil Singh, Will Singleton, Zeth Silvas, Senna Tomizuka, Phoebe Westbrooks and StuArt Williams.

"Casting this production was not a quick process," says Ferrell. We wanted to gather children that represent all of Dallas to create the youth ensemble. Through a series of workshops in several Dallas community centers, we found great kids who embody the joy of this story. Assembling the adult cast was also pure joy and from the youngest to the oldest, I know we have the ideal ensemble to make this one of our most memorable productions ever."

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's (Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita) Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was originally produced as a 20-minute cantata for a private school in London and made its Broadway debut in 1982. This musical of Biblical proportions tells the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors from the Book of Genesis. Its family-friendly themes and high-energy music and lyrics have made the musical a world-wide hit. In DTC's tuneful retelling of this ancient story, practically every line is sung by the actors and children's chorus, in styles from rock to western to 1920's Charleston.

DTC's Joel Ferrell (God of Carnage, A Christmas Carol, Cabaret) will direct and choreograph Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Returning to DTC after last season's Cabaret are Kent Zimmerman as associate choreographer and Jeremy Dumont as youth director. The design team also includes Wade Laboissonniere (DTC: The Wiz; Broadway: The Story of My Life) as costume designer; Bob Lavallee (DTC: Cabaret, A Christmas Carol) as scenic designer; Grant Yeager, new to DTC, as lighting designer; Tony Award-winning Jeff Croiter (Broadway: Peter and the Starcatcher; DTC: Arsenic and Old Lace) as lighting designer; Charles Parsley III (DTC: The Wiz) as sound designer; Cookie Jordan (DTC: The Wiz, A Christmas Carol) as wig and make-up designer; and Eugene Gwozdz as music director and pianist.

All performances of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be held at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre at the AT&T Performing Arts Center located at 2400 Flora St., where it runs June 22 – Aug. 5. Preview performances are June 22 – June 28. Opening night is Friday, June 29 at 8:00 p.m. Performance times are Tuesday through Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. (except for July 4); Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.; and select Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m.

The Pay-What-You-Can performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be Friday, June 22 at 8 p.m. PWYC tickets will be available for purchase online the week of the performance at DTC's website (above) and at the Dee and Charles Wyly Box Office on Friday, June 22 at 5:30 p.m.
