Amphibian Announces Grand Opening of Berlene T. and Jarrell R. Milburn Theatre, 10/20

By:

Amphibian Stage Productions today announced that the grand opening of its new home at 120 South Main Street will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2012. The property will house the professional theatre company's offices and a flexible black box performance space, the Berlene T. and Jarrell R. Milburn Theatre, named for two of Amphibian's generous supporters.

"What an honor it is to be able to name our very first performance space after Berlene and Jarrell Milburn, two individuals who have worked tirelessly on behalf of Amphibian for years. They have not only advanced the mission of Amphibian through their volunteer efforts and financial support, it is in great part due to their advocacy that our capital campaign has been so successful to date. A vote of confidence from the Milburns is one of the highest compliments an arts organization can receive," said Amphibian Stage Productions Artistic Director Kathleen Culebro.

Now in its 13th season, Amphibian Stage Productions is thrilled to be moving into its permanent home in Fort Worth's Near Southside neighborhood in October. The company purchased the property at 120 South Main Street in May of this year and has already begun renovations. Local architect Gregory S. Ibañez, FAIA, of Ibañez Architecture is designing the new space and has donated his services to the project. Fort Construction, Summit Consultants, and 2clighting have also generously donated their services to the project.

To date, Amphibian has raised over $930,000 for its Capital Campaign. Stage and screen actor Kevin Kline, a longtime supporter of the company, has stepped in as Capital Campaign Chair to assist in raising an additional $235,000 to complete the project. Donors interested in supporting the Capital Campaign can call 817-923-3012 or visit www.amphibianproductions.org to contribute.

The week following the opening celebration, Amphibian will open its first production in the building, The True History of the Tragic Life and Triumphant Death of Julia Pastrana, the Ugliest Woman in the World. Running October 25 through November 18, the show is based on the true story of a woman sold to a travelling circus and exhibited around the world as a sideshow phenomenon. Amphibian presented the U.S. premiere of the play in 2003 and will present a new production of the show this fall.
