Ride the Cyclone is a darkly comedic musical that follows six teenagers from the St. Cassian High School chamber choir in Uranium City, Saskatchewan. After a tragic accident on a faulty roller coaster called The Cyclone, the teens find themselves in a limbo-like state, where a mechanical fortune teller named The Amazing Karnak offers one of them a chance to return to life. Each character tells their story through song, vying for the opportunity to be resurrected.
The musical, written by Jacob Richmond and Brooke Maxwell, premiered in 2008 in Victoria, British Columbia, and has since had multiple productions across North America, including an Off-Broadway run in 2016. It blends humor, existential themes, and a variety of musical styles, from ballads to rap, making it a unique and engaging theatrical experience.
