Local celebrity Cabot Rea's daughter Cassie returns from NYC to team up with her father in NPAC's production of this classic musical.
The Fantasticks reminds us of the near-magical ability of humans to address challenges, transcend, and translate them into personal and collective growth opportunities. Life often presents a "First Act" of idealism followed by "Second Act" realism. While there is a sense of loss in abandoning fantasy, this transition is facilitated by an understanding that often things need to “die a little” in order for there to be new and greater growth. It is this optimistic and hopeful message that we seek to offer our community through this classic and timeless production.
This musical tells an allegorical story concerning two neighboring fathers who trick their children, Luisa and Matt, into falling in love by pretending to feud. The original Off-Broadway production ran 17,162 performances over 42 years, making it the world's longest-running musical. The show was revived Off-Broadway from 2006 to 2017 and is among the top musical theatre classics.
