FLANNEL: A 90S ROCK MUSICAL Will Come to Columbus
Head writer Jimmy Mak marks 30 years with the Columbus company in its 18th original musical
Shadowbox Live (SBX) will continue its 2026 season with Flannel: A 90s Rock Musical. This all-new production will feature 17 songs from 17 artists. Flannel will open on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. and continue through Sept. 6 at Shadowbox Live in the Brewery District.
Artists featured in the show include Nirvana, Tom Petty, Smashing Pumpkins, Ozzy Osbourne, and more. Flannel will mark the company’s 18th original musical. The show will also highlight a major milestone for SBX Head Writer Jimmy Mak, who is celebrating 30 years with the company this year. Mak has written or co-written all 18 of SBX’s original musicals. Set in the same decade when he began at SBX, Flannel will reflect both the era that shaped the story and a key chapter in Mak’s career.
“Flannel has real heart, real laughs, and real rock-n-roll,” said Julie Klein, Shadowbox Live’s Producing Director. “While it celebrates the 90s, the story and humor make it easy for anyone to connect with.”
Flannel: A 90s Rock Musical opens Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. and continues on most Thursdays and Fridays at 7:00 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. through September 6.
