Written by Nobel Prize winner Seamus Heaney and directed by Rebecca Moseley, this adaptation of Sophocles' Antigone explores the timeless conflict between individual conscience and state authority. Antigone defies the king Creon, who decrees that her brother's body shall rot unburied as punishment for treason, and she pays a devastating price for choosing loyalty to the gods over obedience to the state. Written in the shadow of the Iraq War, the play's themes of power, dissent, and human dignity remain urgent. Originally commissioned by Ireland's Abbey Theatre to commemorate its centenary, this production marks a return to the work Ensemble first staged in 2006 under founding artistic director Lucia Colombi.
