This live storytelling event will feature true stories crafted into 17-minute solo shows that will take the audience on a humorous and heartfelt journey. He has appeared on film and TV, and on stages in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Chicago for decades. Shane has also been a top featured storyteller at Story Jam for the last three years - one of our very best! Shane is excited and honored to be a part of Story Jam Solo.Lynne JordanIn a city brimming with classic blues and jazz voices, Lynne Jordans voice stands out as vocalist, bandleader, solo performer, and story teller. Drawing upon her own personal stories gleaned from a rich, fascinating life, her experiences are poignant, funny, and always accompanied by a song! Born in Dayton, OH, in a blue collar loving home she was sent to all white schools (imagine the wealth of material there) and Northwestern University where she began crafting her voice for singing, acting and storytelling. Jordan has created a bank of stories about her struggles with weight, show business, aging, and race and ancestral themes (Jordans great grandmother was born a slave and her grandfather was a revered preacher and entrepreneur who once escaped a lynch mob). Jordan has performed her works at numerous live lit shows in Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Kyiv, Moscow and Paris. Lynne is a 3Arts Make a Wave Artist and recently enjoyed a 2021-2022 Diva Residency as Artist in Residence at the Raue Center for the Performing Arts.Arlene MalinowskiActor, Playwright, and Educator Arlene Malinowski is the recipient of a Fellowship at UIC Disability in the Arts, LA Theater Ovations Award, and the LA Garland Award. She was also a finalist in New Plays From the Heartland and semi-finalist at the ONeill and Blue Ink Awards. Two of her original works have been commissioned by 16th Street Theater, where she has a long-standing relationship as a performer and playwright. As an actor, Arlene has worked extensively in film, television and theater. She views her solo & story work as an artistic extension of the social justice work she has been committed to for the last 25 years. She has performed across the US and internationally, and she is one of Story Jam Studio's most popular instructors (learn more at storyjamstudio.com).Typhanie MoniqueSoul-infused-jazz vocal stylist, Typhanie Monique has been a force on the Chicago music scene for over twenty years. Typhanies daring rhythmic ideas and unique improvisatory delivery place her in an elite class of vocalists. As a versatile vocalist and master technician, she confidently defies categorization. She is a story-teller, a phraseologist, delivering lyrics straight from the heart taking you on an emotional journey through grooves and moods. Spontaneous compositions are revealed in every performance.She is a fierce bandleader, known from her days at the Elbo Room with SUMO, Peking Turtle and Jive Council, lending her talent to Tributosaurus (EWF, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles), leading her improv funk outfit, The Booty Movement Coalition, dropping House singles with Mr. Egg Germ and a prominent figure on the international jazz scene. Typhanie has graced jazzs most distinguished venues in the U.S. and abroad from Chicagos Jazz Showcase, City Winery and the Chicago Jazz Festival to The Kitano in NYC, The Dakota in Minneapolis, Dazzle in Denver and Vogues International Design Festival in Moscow, Russia. Typhanie has shared the stage and recorded with Joe Lovano, Chris Potter, The Manhattan Transfer, Mavis Staples, Joel Frahm, Ken Peplowski, Victor Goines, and Tony Monaco to name a few. Typhanies latest project, CALL IT MAGIC, released on Dot Time Records was produced by Grammy award winning producer, Jeff Levenson."This is an album thats been yearsheck, decadesin the making. Columbia College Chicagos, Contemporary, Jazz, and Popular music degree program is one of the top contemporary music programs in the nation. As an Assistant Professor of Voice tenure track and the Coordinator of Vocal Studies, Typhanie instructs and develops curriculum in contemporary vocal technique and pedagogy courses, directs the Recording and Performance Ensemble, and teaches applied voice lessons focused in improvisatory and pop genres. Typhanie earned a BM in Music Business from Elmhurst University, Elmhurst, IL and a MA in Vocal Pedagogy from Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, IL. She is certified in Somatic Voicework Levels I and II and is currently completing a Vocology certification in voice science at the Summer Vocology Institute, University of Utah. Story Jam is produced by Stephanie Rogers, creative director of Story Jam, the Story Jam Podcast, Story Jam Studio, and Story Serenade. Stephanie is a multi-talented artist who holds degrees in theatre and writing, and who is currently completing her fourth CD of original music. Story Jam & Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre Will Collaborate at Artifact Events
July 11, 2022Story Jam's next storytelling show-in a series of monthly shows at Artifact Events-will take place on Wednesday, July 27th at 7:30 PM at 4325 N. Ravenswood Avenue in Chicago. 'Living Truth: True Stories' is a storytelling collaboration with musicians and dancers from Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre.
