Sanctuary Stories: A Journalism Theater Project at Athenaeum Center for Thought and Culture

Through music, documentary video, sound, photos and live actors, this living documentary journalism theater project captures the lives and communities affected by immigration in Chicago. The stories are based on extensive reporting and told verbatim from interview transcripts, illustrated with documentary video and sound. The cast includes Gabriela Barrios, Amber Dow, George Dougherty, Craig Duff, Jean Marie Koon, Lori Navarrete, Matt Specht and Caonguyen Vu, with original music by Flo Estes joined onstage by Emily Haden Lee. The production returns after a sold-out run earlier this year.
