Soulful Seventies Sounds celebrates the music and performers who helped define and shape many of the changes in both the Black community and America at large during the 1970s. The show explores politics, culture, love, courage and commitment during this golden decade, producing some of the most musically creative years in American history. Performed by David Stephens, featuring special guests, the remarkable music is a powerful response, bridging gaps and illustrating where we are going. It's the heart of the times!
First debuted at Davenport’s Cabaret in June 2024, this program features black power, gay power, and reflections of change songs by Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, The Four Tops, Gloria Gaynor, The Temptations, Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions, The Five Stairsteps, and more.
Presented by vocalist David Stephens with Music Director Beckie Menzie, plus Special Chicago Guest Artists: Joyce Thomas and T. Patrick Davis.
