Court Theatre Presents 'Carousel' Opening March 15

Court Theatre continues its 53rd season with Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical, Carousel, directed by Artistic Director Charles Newell with musical direction by Doug Peck and choreography by Randy Duncan. The co-production with Long Wharf Theatre runs March 6 - April 13, 2008, at Court Theatre (5535 S. Ellis Ave). The official press opening is Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 8PM.

"This Rodgers and Hammerstein masterpiece reinvented musical theatre in its day with its lush score and seamless integration of song, story, and dance. Set in a small New England town, the story of an impulsive, brash carnival barker and his bride spans heaven and earth in its exploration of love, human frailty, and redemption," describe press notes.

The cast includes Nicholas Belton (Billy Bigelow), Sean Blake (Man #2, Fisherman #2), Matthew Brumlow (Jigger Craigin), Ben Dicke (Man #3, Fisherman #3, Policeman #1), Carol Angeli Feiger (Woman #2, Mill Girl #2), Neil Friedman (Man #5, Mr. Bascombe, Principal, Fisherman #5), Jess Godwin (Woman #3, Mill Girl #3, Enoch's Daughter), Ernestine Jackson (Nettie, Starkeeper, Dr. Seldon), Rob Lindley (Enoch Snow), Johanna Mckenzie Miller (Julie Jordan), Jessie Mueller (Carrie Pipperidge), Tommy Rapley (Man #1, Carnival Boy, Fisherman #1) and Hollis Resnik (Mrs. Mullins, Heavenly Friend), Laura Scheinbaum (Woman #1, Mill Girl #1, Louise), Travis Turner (Man #4, Fisherman #4, Policeman #2).

The orchestra includes Heather Boehm (Concert Master, violin I), Ralph Boyd (viola), Andrew Giller (bass), Anthony Parsons (reed II), Patrick Rehker (reed I), Linda Reyes (violin II), and Alan Rostoker (cello).

The designers are John Culbert (scenic design), Joshua Horvath (sound design), Ray Nardelli (sound design), Mark McCullough (lighting design), and Jacqueline Firkins (costume design). Ellen Hay is the production stage manager and William Collins is the assistant stage manager. Stephen Raskauskas is the dramaturg.  Randy Duncan is choreographer.

Previews are March 6-14; officially opening Saturday March 15 at 8PM with performances through April 13.  Show times are Wednesdays & Thursdays at 7:30PM; Fridays at 8PM; Saturdays at 3PM (starting March 22) and 8PM; and Sundays at 2:30PM & 7:30PM.
