Carnegie Hall or Bust!

By:

By Steve Leary/Stage Door Chicago

Amy Armstrong has her eyes set on Carnegie. She and Freddy Allen, her best friend and music director, had been a Chicago favorite for years before taking their Big Time Show on the road and across the ocean via RSVP Cruise Lines. They quickly became one of their most popular cabaret acts and were named RSVP's Entertainment Ambassadors in 2006 and 2007.

Some entertainers just have that special chemistry together. Amy and Freddy certainly do. It's easy to think of them as a modern day Bette Midler and Barry Manilow. Amy is a consummate pro at working the audience with her bawdy sense of humor, and Freddy is always there with her, adding his jabs, or acting as her "straight man."

I don't think the room has been created that can actually contain the energy and power of Amy Armstrong. Her voice is a powerful instrument that can blow the roof off, while in its more subdued moments, can express a subtle vulnerability that can mesmerize an audience into a complete silence. Freddy's arrangements are studio session quality, performed with a passion that meets Amy somewhere in the middle of her storm.

Joining the Amy and Freddy team this week is a fantastic addition: Steve Moretti drummer extraordinaire with his perfect timing and perfect white teeth. Under the watchful managing eye of Margie Korshak's office, Ted Boles has big plans for Amy and Freddy and a schedule to match.

Escape into the world of Amy and Freddy with Amy & Freddy's Big Time Show. You'll be singing their songs long after the music has stopped!

Amy Armstrong and Freddy Allen are performing at the Theatre Building on Belmont Ave. from July 12-15th. Visit their website at amyfreddy.com for upcoming performance times and locations and check out their CDs for purchase while you're there!
