Each year, DSI Comedy Theater has set out to find Carolina's Funniest Comic. This year, they are making the Seventh Annual Edition of the competition bigger and better. For the first time ever, the competition will feature comedians from both North Carolina and South Carolina. DSI Comedy Theater is partnering with Alchemy Comedy Theater in Greenville, South Carolina for the competition this year. The competition begins in January and the finals will be Sunday, February 16 at 9 p.m. as part of the final night of the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival. DSI Comedy Theater is located at 200 N. Greensboro Street in the Carr Mill Mall between Elmo's and Southern Rail. Tickets for all shows and more information can be found at www.dsicomedy.com.

This year, Carolina's Funniest Comic is bigger and better than ever. This year, the funniest comics in North and South Carolina will compete for $1000 in cash and prizes. As always, audiences will vote for the winners in each round. 36 comedians from North Carolina and 36 from South Carolina will compete throughout January. The top two from each state and a wildcard voted on by the comics will compete in the finals on Sunday, February 16 at 9 p.m. during the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival.

DSI has become the venue in The Triangle for Alternative Standup Comedy over the past seven years. In addition to running an incredibly successful comedy festival, DSI has presented Louis CK, Eddie Brill, Aparna Nancherla, Josh Gondelman, Emo Philips, and hosted Kumail Nanjiani's Christmas Eve Eve Spectacular two years in a row, and the Beards of Comedy CD Release. The 2013 North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival featured a headlining performance with Steven Wright and a multiple sets from Chelsea Lately writer April Richardson and a host of rising comics from around the country.

"The expansion of the DSI family into South Carolina with Alum Harrison Brookie -- former MISTER DIPLOMAT cast member and DSI Comedy School instructor -- and Alchemy Comedy was the perfect opportunity for the growth of Carolina's Funniest Comic competition, now with comics from both North and South Carolina competing for the 2014 title," explains Executive Producer and contest creator Zach Ward. "I'm excited about the level of comedy talent in the Carolinas. The competition gets more intense each year, which means audiences should be in for a treat."

DSI Comedy Theater, an 84-seat non-smoking theater located in Carrboro, North Carolina, boasts a local company of 45 active performers and a national network of almost 100 professional comedians. A dedicated member of its community, the theatre continues to reach out to the greater Triangle region with fundraisers, outreach, and educational opportunities for all ages and abilities. It is the home of the DSI Comedy Training Center, which offers new classes every month in the art of improvisation, stand-up and sketch comedy. Zach Ward, Owner and Executive Producer of DSI, has trained improv talent featured on television (Jeff Richards, Saturday Night Live, MADtv), the big screen (Maddy Curley, Disney's Stick it), and students now featured at IO Chicago, IO West, UCBT-NY and UCBT-LA, Second City, Boom (Amsterdam), and ComedySportz.
