DAUGHTERS (HIJAS) to Have World Premiere at Kitchen Theatre Company
The new musical by Saviana Stanescu, Julian Mesri, and Courtney Young Socher explores Argentina's Los Desaparecidos.
Walking on Water Productions (WoW) and The Finger Lakes New Works Festival (FLNWF) present Daughters (Hijas): A New Musical by Saviana Stanescu, Julian Mesri, and Courtney Young Socher, running June 4-14 at Kitchen Theatre Company.
The first fully staged production of Daughters (Hijas) follows Andrea, who is determined to explore her Argentinian roots despite her mother Mariana's reluctance to discover her own deep connection to Los Desaparecidos and Las Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo. At a museum exhibit Andrea comes face to face with someone who could be her abuela (grandmother) in Clara, a girl who disappeared in Buenos Aires during the Military Junta. Will Mariana join Andrea in the journey of self-discovery?
Bloodlines and lifelines collide in this heart-forward musical about four generations of women shaping history and her-story.
WoW and FLNWF's creative and production team includes Courtney Young Socher (Co-Producer/Co-Creator/Director), Priscilla Hummel (Co-Producer/Choreographer), Saviana Stanescu (Bookwriter), Julian Mesri (Composer/Lyricist), Amanda Morton (Music Director), Oliver Canales Greenwood (Scenic Designer), Andrea Mejuto (Costume Designer), Noelle Whipple (Lighting Designer), Luke Klingensmith (Audio Engineer), Sonora Cohen-Rider (Production Dramaturg), and Lucas Hibbert (Production Stage Manager).
