Shawnee on Delaware, PA – The Shawnee Playhouse, celebrating its forty-eighth season, will be offering a variety of five-day S.T.A.R.S. Academy Summer Musical Theatre Camps, on weekdays, during the weeks of July 6th, July 13th, July 20th, August 10th, and August 17th, 2026. These camps will allow participants to experience a comprehensive, hands-on approach to the world of theatre, and campers will have the opportunity to perform in one of the shows at the end of each week. The specific one-week camps (weekdays, from 9:00AM until 3:00PM) for the 2026 summer season are Disney’s Finding Nemo KIDS (ages five to eight), We Will Rock You (ages eight to fourteen), Matilda Jr. (ages five to ten), 42nd Street, Youth Edition (ages eight to fourteen), and Write Your Own Play Camp (ages eight to fourteen). These camps are open to all children within the age ranges, and will be held from 9AM until 3PM, weekdays, at The Shawnee Playhouse and The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort. All campers will learn music and choreography from their specific themed camp production, and will receive professional mentoring and training from The Shawnee Playhouse staff.

The Shawnee Theatrical Arts Resource School (S.T.A.R.S.) offers a channel for a child’s natural gifts of imagination and role-playing. Through theatre arts, children sharpen their creativity, improve their communication skills, gain self-confidence and learn the importance of teamwork. Above all, children enjoy becoming a part of the magic that they create on the stage. Our program offers children an introduction to many aspects of theatre through stage movement, dance, music, art, creative games, role-play and scene study. Camp size is limited, so please register as soon as possible.

Our summer camps will reflect the shows produced during the summer season. Young performers will learn about acting, theatre etiquette, terminology, costuming, and make-up. The campers will then present a staged production, and this special performance will correlate with the theme of each camp. Tickets will also need to be purchased for all who attend the performance. Please see each specific camp for more information. Our S.T.A.R.S. camps offer young people an education based, fun-filled theater experience! Campers will be part of a performance at the end of the session. This is hands-on learning at its best! This program is overseen by Midge McClosky, Playhouse Executive Director and creator of the S.T.A.R.S. program. Our Camp Director, Natalie Gilbert, will be assisted by our summer intern staff! The material for each week (the exercises, songs and scripts) will be customized to suit each unique blend of campers while exploring our theme. The campers will be creating their own shows for the exploration camps. Each week has a different theme and will focus on a variety of theatrical elements.
