Telenovela Nights at 54 Below

Telenovela Nights is a bilingual musical cabaret double feature presented by Broadway Sin Barreras, inspired by the experience of gathering with family to watch nightly telenovelas, reimagined live on stage through musical theater, comedy, melodrama, and cabaret storytelling. The evening features two original musical telenovelas performed back-to-back: Champagne Tears: The Rich Also Cry, a theatrical rags-to-riches saga filled with betrayals and family secrets, and Querida: Amor Sin Final, a story of love, heartbreak, and family expectations inspired by the music of Juan Gabriel. The production is directed by Vanessa Verduga and Juliana Padilla, with Eric Smrcka serving as Musical Director and pianist.

Broadway veteran Danny Bolero joins the company as the evening's host and ultimate telenovela galán, alongside returning company members and new performers including Diana Ponce, Astrid Selene, and Claudio Medina.

The 54 Below engagement concludes Broadway Sin Vergüenza's inaugural 2026 cabaret circuit, which began with a developmental workshop at Pregones/PRTT in the Bronx and continued with Telenovela Nights at The Green Room 42 in May.

“Closing our first Telenovela Nights cabaret circuit at 54 Below on the final night of Hispanic Heritage Month feels incredibly fitting,” says Verduga. “We wanted to take something so many of us grew up with — the telenovela — and let it collide with our love of musical theater. It's dramatic, ridiculous, heartfelt, and unapologetically us.”
