Röckët Stähr's Death of a Rockstar is a 90-minute animated rock opera film set in the year 2164, when rock 'n' roll has been outlawed and a band of underground rebels clone a rock star to blast a docile society back to life. As the film plays, Stähr and a five-piece band of Broadway veterans and guest vocalists perform the entire rock opera live, with Abby Ahmad reprising her role as the rebellious runaway Ronnie. The production is co-directed by Johanna McKeon and Austin Regan, produced by Ryan Gentles, and features bassist Joan Chew, guitarists Angus Clark and Rob Bailey, and drummer David Richman. This cine-concert experience marks Stähr's return to live performance after a nearly two-decade hiatus during which he created and self-released the film.
