The world premiere of "Diablo," directed and produced by Lawrence Roeck ("The Forger"), and starring Scott Eastwood ("The Longest Ride"), took top honors at the San Diego Film Festival on Saturday night, winning the jury award for Best Feature Film.

"We are thrilled that Diablo's world premiere received such an overwhelmingly positive response from our two sold-out screenings and are honored to have received the jury's top prize for Best Feature Film," said Roeck.

In "Diablo," Eastwood plays a former Civil War soldier with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who hits the trail in an attempt to rescue his young wife from kidnappers. Along the way, he begins to unravel as the horrors of war come back to haunt him.

Roeck told the San Diego audience, "We wanted to flip the traditional Western on its head, and explore PTSD and mental illness in a Western movie that's also a psychological thriller." He added, "These subjects are rarely discussed in tandem with the Civil War."

When reached for comment, Eastwood's fellow cast member, Adam Beach ("Flags of Our Fathers," and next year's DC Comics' "Suicide Squad") said, "I'm so happy for the win. Diablo has given me an appreciation that the Western genre in films is alive and well."

Beach went on to say, "After reading the script (by screenwriter and producer Carlos de los Rios), I told Scott Eastwood: 'We can never tell anyone how it ends.' And it's been tight lips ever since."

Joining Eastwood and Beach is a talented cast that includes: Walton Goggins (FX's "Justified," Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" and "The Hateful Eight"), renowned actor Danny Glover ("Lethal Weapon," "The Color Purple"), and Camilla Belle ("10,000 BC," "The Ballad of Jack and Rose").
