Women Make Movies and dGenerate Films Join OVID.tv

Jonathan Miller announced today that two additional independent film distribution companies have agreed to join OVID.tv as founding content partners, along with the six (see below) first announced on January 17th.

The two companies are:
Women Make Movies, established in 1972, is the world's leading distributor of independent films by and about women, from cutting-edge documentaries that give depth to today's headlines to smart, stunning films that push artistic and intellectual boundaries in all genres.

dGenerate Films, established in 2008, is the leading distributor of contemporary independent film from mainland China to audiences worldwide. Amongst the directors whose work it represents are Cai Chengjie. Huang Ji, and Pema Tseden.

They have joined the first six content partners: Bullfrog Films, Distrib Films US, First Run Features, Grasshopper Film, Icarus Films, and KimStim, in an unprecedented collaborative effort to support the launch of this new subscription video-on-demand service.

Drawing from the catalogues of these distributors respected for the depth of their industry experience and the vitality of their collections, OVID.tv will initially offer more than 350 quality arthouse, documentary, and social issue films. Most of the titles on OVID.tv are not and will not be available on any other SVOD service.

OVID will regularly add new titles in this regard Miller also announced some of the services additional programming plans for the coming months. Approximately 50 titles (most of them fiction feature films), and the documentary series MONDOVINO (10 parts, by Jonathan Nossiter) are lined up for release on March 29th, and April 5th. OVID is expected to have approximately 400 titles online as of April 5th.

Later in April and In May OVID will add another 150 plus titles, with a strong focus on LGBTQ+ content in time for June's Pride celebrations.

And in the summer of 2019, OVID will add more arthouse feature films, including films directed by Bi Gan, Pedro Costa, Claire Denis, Bruno Dumont, Cheryl Dunye, Philippe Garrel, NIKITA Mikhalkov, Eric Rohmer, Raul Ruiz, Dominga Sotomayor, Jean-Marie Straub and Danielle Huillet.

Initial subscription prices for OVID have been set at only $6.99 per month, or $69.99 annually. Customers will be offered a free introductory period. Exact launch date and where and how to sign up for OVID.tv will be announced later this month.
