The original Captain Kirk may be making a special appearance in an upcoming STAR TREK film.

According to ComingSoon.net, STAR TREK's William Shatner has said that producer J.J. Abrams (helming the new generation of STAR TREK fims) approached Shatner about returning to the Sci-Fi series.

Abrams said, "I'm calling because the director of STAR TREK, the next movie, has had an idea where you might be involved, so I'm calling to find out whether you would be interested."

Shatner responded, saying, "It depends on what you do with the character, but I would be delighted."

Though he was sworn to secrecy, the story still came out, at which point he was able to speak a bit on the matter.

"So the news is out that they have an idea that...they might want Leonard and myself in it," Shatner said. "But I would love to do it. But how do you get me fifty years later into the movie? I mean how do you rationalize it. I know it's science fiction, but even I couldn't come up with an idea. So that's the news on that."

The script, by screenwriter Roberto Orci, has completed the script for the unnamed STAR TREK 3. Thusfar, no release date has been set, but there is speculation that it will be released in 2016- STAR TREK's 50th anniversary.
