Willem Dafoe to Join Cast of OUT OF THE FURNACE

Deadline.com reports that Willem Dafoe has joined the cast of OUT OF THE FURNACE, the action thriller from Relativity Media. The actor joins previously announced cast members Christian Bale, Casey Affleck, Zoe Saldana, Sam Shepard, Woody Harrelson and Forest Whitaker.

OUT OF THE FURNACE is written and directed by Scott Cooper and is based on Brad Inglesby's account titled 'The Low Dwellers'. The story will follow two brothers (Bale and Affleck) who live in the Rust Belt. One sibling will wind up in prison while the other joins up with a ruthless crime network.

Shooting on the film began on April 13th on location in Braddock, PA.

Dafoe's long career in film includes Platoon, Affliction, Off Limits, Streets of Fire, To Live and Die in L.A., Born on the Fourth of July, The English Patient, The Last Temptation of Christ, Mississippi Burning, The Boondock Saints, Spider-Man, and The Aviator as well as voice roles in Fantastic Mr. Fox and Finding Nemo.

Dafoe has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor twice. The first was for his role in Platoon in 1986 and the second for his performance in Shadow of the Vampire in 2000.
