"SMOKED," the hot new web series that follows the misadventures of three friends as they comically mismanage a medical marijuana dispensary, will begin pre-production on season two this October. Infused with a community of YouTube fans and sponsors, the next season promises to please existing fans while gaining new followers at the same time.

"SMOKED" is set in the iconic city of Venice, California – a place known for its beaches, its boardwalk and its bud. The series aptly depicts the political debate surrounding the legalization of marijuana, but uses this platform as a comical background rather than a chance to fight for a cause. Like any show, it is the characters that drive the demand from fans. Michelle Lawrence stars as Megan, the sweet political activist, while Matt Lowe stars as her stoner brother Andy. Co-creator Tommy Villafranca rounds out the core ensemble playing Ben, the third owner of Five Points Farmacy.

Villafranca created "SMOKED" in 2011 with Josh Newell and John Bruno, a trio that was formed from their days working together at DreamWorks/Amblin Entertainment. Ultimately, they wanted to create a project that they could control. “Originally the show was playing off the idea of "Cheers". Instead of it being a bar in Boston, it’s a dispensary in Venice Beach. "SMOKED" isn’t so much about the business they run, but more about the characters and their relationships,” explains Villafranca. The camaraderie between the "SMOKED" characters is reminiscent of "Cheers," but more often fans liken it to a weed inspired, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”

In the end there is no perfect comparison for "SMOKED" because it is a show set apart from its competitors. For the second season Villafranca and his team have big plans for the crew at Five Points Farmacy. Fans can expect at least eight new episodes, new characters, hilarious story-lines and cameos from some recognizable faces.
