AMC's SMASH hit series The Walking Dead broke its previous record with 12.3 million viewers and a 6.1 rating in the prized adults 18-49 demographic.

That number is unprecedented - it is the highest adult demo ever for a basic series telecast! Clearly, the American public has a taste for zombies between the success of WARM BODIES in cinemas the last two weeks and the continually rising ratings of THE WALKING DEAD.

Also, according to the report over at Entertainment Weekly, by including the encore showing to the initial 12.3 million that another four million to the tally, bringing the total views of the episode that aired last night alone to almost 17 million - and that doesn't even include DVR!

THE WALKING DEAD is now in its third season AMC.
