Variance Films and FilmBuff announced today that they are releasing festival favorite THE HISTORY OF FUTURE FOLK, the debut feature from filmmakers J. Anderson Mitchell and Jeremy Kipp Walker. Variance will release the film in US theaters beginning at New York City's Cinema Village on May 31st, 2013 and Los Angeles' Sundance Sunset Cinemas on June 7th, 2013, with live appearances by the musical space alien heroes at select shows. A national theatrical rollout will continue through the summer. FilmBuff will release the film on iTunes and across all digital platforms on June 4th, 2013.

THE HISTORY OF FUTURE FOLK debuted to rave reviews in June at the Los Angeles Film Festival and has been a standout comedy on the festival circuit, garnering awards at Fantastic Fest and Philadelphia Film Festival, amongst several others. Nominated for Film Independent's Jameson Find Your Audience Award at this year's Spirit Awards, the movie tells the possibly exaggerated origin story of the real life alien bluegrass band Future Folk that has been charming NYC audiences with their live act for the better part of a decade.

THE HISTORY OF FUTURE FOLK is a Maida Vale Films Production, directed by J. Anderson Mitchell and Jeremy Kipp Walker, written by Mitchell and produced by Walker, Jon Bulette, Andrew Goldman, and Smokey Nelson.
