An adaptation of Philipp Meyer's novel American Rust is currently in the works at USA Network, as reported by Variety.

The series will follow the a small Pennsylvania town filled with crime through the eyes of the town's sheriff, who has a dangerous past himself.

This is not the first Meyer adaptation to hit small screens. AMC picked up his previous novel, The Son, for a second season.

Brian McGreevy and Lee Shipman (executive producers and co-creators of THE SON) have written the pilot for AMERICAN RUST with Meyer. The whole team will also serve as executive producers. Other producers include Michael De Luca, Elishia Holmes, Quan Phung, Elisa Ellis and Courtney Conte. Companies Universal Cable Productions and Platform One Media will also produce. David Gordon Green has signed on to not only produce the show, but direct the first episode.

There is no word yet on when production will start for the show or when the show will air on USA.
