The Huffington Post reports that Tom Hanks is in talks to play famed animator Walt Disney in the upcoming true-life story SAVING MR. BANKS. The film follows Disney's quest to make a full length feature film based on P.L. Travers' children's book, 'Mary Poppins'. John Lee Hancock (The Bling Side) is set to direct.

Emma Thompson is reportedly in talks to play the role of Travers, the Australian author who penned the popular children's novel and who fought tooth and nail over a 14 year period to prevent Disney from bringing her story to the big screen.

Disney's 'Mary Poppins' starred Julie Andrews and was directed by Robert Stevenson. Travors was never content with the finished project, which went on to win four Academy Awards for Best Actress (Julie Andrews), Best Film Editing, Original Music Score, Best Song ("Chim Chim Chir-ee"), and Special Visual Effects.

Walt Disney Studios announced the upcoming project in February and reportedly has Hanks on their short list for the role of Walt Disney.
