As first reported on Deadline.com, Paramount Pictures will finance and distribute THE INTERN, a comedy written and directed by Nancy Meyers. Tina Fey is attached to star. Production on the film, to be produced by Scott Rudin, is expected to begin in early 2013.

Fey will portray the founder of a thriving fashion-related e-business who learns that her company will begin taking on senior citizens as interns as part of a community outreach program. The title character is a described as "an over-70 widower who is bored with retirement from a middle management career, initially seems like a fossil to his working mother boss, but grows more indispensable." As Fey and her intern begin to develop a relationship, a true generational friendship is formed.

Asked why she chose to set her story in an e-businesss environment, Meyers responded, "It seemed more interesting than having to see yet another thing set at an ad agency. Tina's character is much younger than me, but I was attracted to the pressures the character feels with her business, her husband and kids, and seeing all this from the point of view of a man who has been through it."
