Deadline writes that The CW has ordered its first pilots for the season.

Among them is a new version of the '80s horror/fantasy series TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE, originally created by George A. Romero, alongside CORDON, a drama from THE VAMPIRE DIARIES' Julie Plec and director David Nutter, and the supernatural drama DEAD PEOPLE from CALIFORNICATION's Tom Kapinos.

Joe Hill, who is Stephen King's son and writes the Locke & Key comics, is writing the 'DARKSIDE' reboot. The original anthology series followed a format popular with other shows such as The Twilight Zone and Tales From The Crypt, in which each episode is its own story with a plot-twist ending.

TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE will be executive produced by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Sleepy Hollow), along with the 1984 show's producer Jerry Golod, as well as Hill, Heather Kadin and Mitch Galin.

CORDON is based on a Belgian series by Carl Joos and will be set in Atlanta, where "a deadly epidemic breaks out" and "a large city quarantine is quickly enforced, leaving those stuck on the inside to fight for their lives. Loved ones are tragically torn apart, and the society that grows inside the cordon reveals both the devolution of humanity and the birth of unlikely heroes."

Producer Plec also penned the script for CORDON, with ARROW and THE FLASH's Nutter in the director's chair.

DEAD PEOPLE, from J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot and Kapinos's Aggressive Mediocrity, is also written by Kapinos and follows "a down-on-his-luck, semi-alcoholic but roguishly charming cab driver. After a near-death experience, he suddenly has the ability to interact with ghosts, including his late ex-wife who he was never gotten over."
