The one-hour show, based on the book by Piper Kerman, is about a Brooklyn woman whose decade-old relationship with a drug-runner in college results in her arrest and multi-year detention in a federal penitentiary.

Schilling appeared on stage in Bard Center's Uncle Vanya in 2008. The actress has also starred in the film adaptation of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, as well as the movie The Lucky One opposite Zac Efron. On television, Schilling is well known for her role on NBC's Mercy.

Orange Is the New Black is the latest addition to Netflix's original series lineup, which includes House of Cards and the upcoming continuation of the popular series Arrested Development.
