According to The Hollywood Reporter, THE HOBBIT's leading man Martin Freeman is in talks to join THE TALIBAN SHUFFLE film adaptation, based on Kim Barker's memoir and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.

The film "tells of Barker's arrival as a fish-out-of-water in Kabul, filing stories about militants, being a woman in wartime Iraq and Pakistan, dealing with boredom interspersed with dashes of violence and the promiscuous war correspondent culture."

Freeman would join Tina Fey (as Barker) and Margot Robbie in the cast. He would play "Fey's unexpected love interest, a dedicated Scottish photojournalist." Robbie is set to portray "a competing and hardcore air reporter."

SNL's Lorne Michaels is producing alongside Fey. 30 ROCK writer Robert Carlock will pen the script.

Freeman will next be seen in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, The Eichmann Show and Funny Cow. He currently stars in the TV series Sherlock and Fargo.
