Tommy Davidson (In Living Color) was also recently rumored to be circling the role of Davis, although nothing has been confirme D. Davis was portrayed by Don Cheadle in the 1998 HBO TV movie The Rat Pack. Cheadle won a Golden Globe for his performance.

The rights to Sammy Davis Jr.'s story are somewhat complicated; who holds the estate, which books are optioned and more will have to be ironed out before the project can proceed.

Daniels is also currently talks to direct Janis Joplin: Get It While You Can, and his most recent film The Butler, featuring megastar Oprah, is doing well at the box office with $25 million last weekend. Daniels' other directing credits include The Paperboy, Precious -- which earned six Academy Award nominations, including Best Director -- and Shadowboxer.
