Stouthearted Films has announced the world premiere of PUTZEL, an indie comedy starring Jack T. Carpenter (I LOVE YOU BETH COOPER, Sydney White) in a breakout role and -- following her stellar performance in HELLO I MUST BE GOING -- the incomparable Melanie Lynskey (WIN WIN, UP IN THE AIR, THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER). PUTZEL is directed by Jason Chaet (Creative Consultant KISSING JESSICA STEIN) and will have its world premiere today, October 13 at the 2012 Woodstock Film Festival.

As a contemporary fable, PUTZEL explores what happens when you step beyond the boundaries of a comfortable life and risk who you are for who you could become... And answers that eternal question: What is a PUTZEL?

In this bittersweet romantic comedy, Carpenter plays Walter Himmelstein, aka Putzel, the heir to a famous New York City smoked-fish emporium (think lox, nova, bagels). Walter grew up in the family store and is content to never leave his Upper West Side neighborhood. He thinks he knows what he wants in life -- until he meets Sally (Lynskey).

PUTZEL features an amazing ensemble cast. Joining Carpenter and Lynskey is Susie Essman (CURB YOUR ENTHUSIAM; Williamstown Theater Festival’s Last of the Red Hot Lovers) in a role sure to surprise and enchant audiences, as well as a solid roster of scene-stealers: John Pankow (EPISODES, MAD ABOUT YOU, MORNING GLORY; Broadway: Amadeus, Cymbeline, Twelve Angry Men, Iceman Cometh), Fran Kranz (THE CABIN IN THE WOODS; Broadway: Death of a Salesman), AdrIan Martinez (EXTREMELY LOUD & INCREDIBLY CLOSE, KICK-ASS; Theater: Last Days of Judas Iscariot, Our Lady of 121st Street), Armando Riesco (GARDEN STATE, WORLD TRADE CENTER, National Treasure; Theater: The Pulitzer Prize Winning Water by the Spoonful at Hartford Stage), and Fred Berman (Broadway: The Lion King).

PUTZEL is executive produced by Mary Jane Skalski (HELLO I MUST BE GOING, WIN WIN, THE STATION AGENT, THE VISITOR) and Jonathan Gray (HELLO I MUST BE GOING, THE ART OF GETTING BY). “Putzel is a small town story, set in the heart of New York City -- it's equal parts funny, charming, and poignant. I'm incredibly excited about being involved. It's a little movie with a ton of heart,” says Mary Jane Skalski.

After selling-out advance tickets to today's October 13th screening in Woodstock, the PUTZEL world premiere has been moved to a larger venue. It will now screen at 7pm on October 13th at the Woodstock Playhouse, in Woodstock, New York. As part of the Woodstock Film Festival, PUTZEL will also screen on October 14th, at 12:15pm, at the Rosendale Theater in Rosendale, New York.
