Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, creators of STOMP, have a new movie currently playing Imax and 3D theatres around the world that is as far removed from their Off Broadway percussive hit as possible: Wild Ocean 3D follows the thousands of dolphins, sharks and seabirds that pursue gigantic shoals of sardines off the coast of South Africa each year.

After making their first large format film, Pulse, which explored world rhythms, they wanted to make another immersive, symphonic movie, this time in 3D. With Cresswell a keen diver, choosing the spectacular submarine ballet of the sardine run seemed a clear choice: the film culminates in an extraordinary undersea battle with photographer DJ Roller's 3D camera at the heart of the action.

Wild Ocean makes a plea for the creation of marine reserves across the globe: Cresswell and McNicholas have already begun production of their second underwater 3D movie, which will explore the world's disappearing reefs and examine how CO2 emissions are deeply affecting coral and what that means to everyone.
