Russell Crowe and Beyonce Knowles to Lead 'A Star Is Born' Remake?

By: Feb. 05, 2010

As previously reported, a remake of the classic "A Star is Born," is moving along in the development process at Warner Bros. Pictures after years of treading water. The most recent rendition, released in 1976 stared Barbra Streisand, Kris Kristofferson and Gary Busey. Previous incarnations have starred Janet Gaynor and Fredric March (1937), and Judy Garland and James Mason (1954).

Dark Horizon is reporting that Russell Crowe has been tapped to lead this latest remake, playing the famous, alcoholic musician who falls in love with his female protege. It is rumored that Beyonce Knowles is in talks to play the female lead.

The film is being produced by Jon Peters, Billy Gerber and Basil Iwanyk. Will Fetters ("The Lucky One," "Remember Me") has been hired to write the new script after previous versions by Stephen Rivele and Christopher Wilkinson ("Ali"), and Reggie Rock Bythewood ("Notorious") had been rejected.

As in the 1976 incarnation, the newest version in the works will be set in the music industry instead of the movie business as in the first two original films.  Details regarding filming and a release have yet to be announced.
