The Hollywood Reporter writes that Rooney Mara has signed on for The Weinstein Company's LION, starring Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel.

LION, adapted from Saroo Brierley's book A LONG WAY HOME by Luke Davies, is directed by Garth Davis.

It follows a boy named Brierley (Patel), "who at 5 years old boarded the wrong train in his native India, ending up thousands of kilometers away from home and living on the streets of Kolkata. Eventually adopted by an Australian couple, he took to Google Earth to track down his hometown and reunite with his family 25 years later."

Also joining the cast are TOP OF THE LAKE's David Denham and DETECTORISTS' Divian Ladwa.

They will star alongside previously announced Indian stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Priyanka Bose, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Deepti Naval.

Among Mara's upcoming big screen projects are CAROL, WEIGHTLESS, THE SECRET SCRIPTURE, PAN, BLACKBIRD and THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE. She has recently starred in the films TRASH, HER, SIDE EFFECTS, AIN'T THEM BODIES SAINTS and THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.
