By: Caryn Robbins
Accomplished actress Roberta Bassin, known for her work as edgy, offbeat characters, is joining director Bob Torrance's new quirky comedy film "Petal Pushers."
Recognized for her roles in the acclaimed film drama "Barfly" and the memorable Clint Eastwood-directed docudrama "J. Edgar," Bassin takes on a nurturing role of SELMA opposite actress Kaitlyn Black of the CW hit drama "Heart of Dixie." "I love to work with such talented people as Kaitlyn and director Bob Torrance," Bassin said. "I've played a lot of intense and sometimes crazy characters, but this film gives me the opportunity to be a little more nurturing and nice." The kooky, dark comedy is reminiscent of "Arsenic and Old Lace," featuring two sisters in the flower business who face off against a suspicious step-father while a smitten detective discovers love and work don't mix. The film's stars are Kaitlyn Black and Isidora Goreshter ("Paranoia"), as well as Laird Macintosh ("Saving Private Ryan"), Bridey Elliott ("Fort Tilden") and Keith Reay ("The Best Way to Quit Smoking").With a career that spans a number of films, Bassin is also recognized for her recent television work that includes roles in "Criminal Minds," "Grey's Anatomy, "ER," "The Pretender," "Crossing Jordan," "American Dreams," and many others. "Petal Pushers" is Smoketree Entertainment production, produced by Bob Torrance and Travis Huff, written by Danna Mongoven and Bob Torrance from a story by Danna Mongoven, cinematography by Philip Lee, CASTING BY John Jackson, and production design by Joshua Stricklin.
