'Return to Mount Kennedy' Wins Grand Prize at BBVA Mountain Film Festival in Spain

Return to Mount KENNEDY - the poignant documentary film chronicling THE JOURNEY of Bobby Whittaker, his half-brother Leif Whittaker and Robert F. Kennedy's son Chris KENNEDY as they attempt to summit Mount KENNEDY in honor of their fathers' historic climb in 1965 is earning international acclaim. This past weekend, Return to Mount KENNEDY won two awards -Grand Prize (Best Film) and BOREAL Award (Best Script) at the 36th Mountain Film Festival BBVA in Torelló, Spain.

The award comes on the heels of the Calgary Mountain Film Festival where Return to Mount Kennedytook home the Audience Choice Award and the Port Townsend Film Festival where it also won theAudience Choice Award for Best Documentary. These accolades are well earned for the film which has been warming its way through the festival circuit since its World Premiere on May 25th at theTelluride Mountainfilm Festival.

It's also rewarding for the cast and the film's director, Eric Becker, who came near their first win following the Northwest premiere of Return to Mount KENNEDY at the Seattle International Film Festival on June 2nd, ultimately landing in the second runner-up slot for the Golden Space Needle Award for Best Documentary, losing out to two massive documentary films - Won't You Be My Neighbor? and Pick of the Litter.

As Return to Mount KENNEDY continues to make its way to festivals around the world including a February 2019 screening at the Boulder International Film Festival and a March 2019 screening at theDCEFF - the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation's Capital - the team behind the film including Jim Whittaker, Leif Whittaker, Bob Whittaker, Eric Becker, and Eddie Vedder (who contributed original music to the documentary) are gathering together again on December 9th for a special Seattle screening ofReturn to Mount KENNEDY at the iconic Cinerama theatre. The evening is being presented by Sub Popand the Seattle Mountaineers and all proceeds from the event will go toward final production costs of the film.
