With the help of Packages From Home, Operation Gratitude, the USO and a family on a mission, Redbox, America's destination for entertainment, is helping make this season merry by donating more than 10,000 DVDs to U.S. troops serving abroad.

Hyman Strachman, a tenacious and charming 93-year-old World War II veteran, and his family, have made it a mission to provide entertainment to the troops. When Redbox leaders were contacted by the Strachman family, they were inspired to leverage the company's DVD collection to boost Mr. Strachman's contributions to the troops. Through a partnership with Packages From Home and with help from the USO and Operation Gratitude, Redbox will be donating more than 10,000 DVDs through 2013, starting this December.

"Movies offer a special connection to home, especially around the holiday season," said Anne Saunders, president, Redbox. "We're humbled by the opportunity to elevate Mr. Strachman's mission by providing even more movies and hours of entertainment to our troops."

Redbox sent about 6,000 DVDs to forward deployed troops through Kandahar Afghanistan and will be regularly donating DVDs to Packages From Home, a nonprofit that sends care packages to deployed U.S. military personnel and facilitates activities that elevate the morale of veterans. To celebrate the holidays, the company's employees also built care packages that included a donation of more than 1,500 DVDs for Operation Gratitude, a nonprofit that annually sends thousands of care packages to U.S. Service members, their children, Wounded Warriors, Veterans and First Responders.

Movies provide much-needed entertainment to troops, who often watch them at social events or use them as opportunities to have shared experiences with loved ones back home.

"Sending movies to the troops is just one way Redbox is sharing our gratitude for their service," said Saunders.
