Variety reports that Pablo Aguero's long-delayed film EVITA, which follows the strange 25-year journey of the corpse of former Argentine First Lady Evita Peron, will begin principal photography in January.

Production was originally set to get underway in early 2014. The project stars Gael Garcia Bernal, Denis Lavant, Daniel Fanego, and Nahuel P. Biscayart, along with Spanish actor Imanol Arias who recently signed on to portray the doctor who embalms Peron's body.

Due to scheduling conflicts, Mia Maestro, who was set to take on the title role, was forced to drop out. New casting has not yet been announced.

Maestro is currently filming Season Two of Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan's vampire TV series "The Strain." Last month, the actress released her debut album, "Si Agua" (If Water).
