By: Aug. 31, 2013

ONE DIRECTION: THIS IS US banked on the band's cult following to bring in $8.9 million at Friday's box office, with estimates as high as $25 million for Labor Day weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter. If it reaches that number, ONE DIRECTION will be able to boast the second-best gross of all time for the holiday weekend, behind 2007's Halloween.

ONE DIRECTION is an intimate look at life on the road for the global music phenomenon. Weaved with live concert footage, the film tells the remarkable story of Niall, Zayn, Liam, Harry and Louis' rise to fame, from their humble hometown beginnings and competing on the X-Factor, to conquering the world and performing at London's famed O2 Arena.

The movie is directed by Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) and produced by Simon Cowell, Adam Milano, Spurlock and Ben Winston.

Lee Daniels' THE BUTLER sidles in at No. 2 and is looking at around $18 million for the weekend. Lionsgate's INSTRUCTIONS NOT INCLUDED, at No. 5 with $8 million, has topped both GETAWAY, starring Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez, and CLOSED CIRCUIT with Eric Bana.

GETAWAY drew $1.4 million on Friday and is heading for $5.3 million for the holiday; CLOSED CIRCUIT is likely to pull just $3.8 million in its first week.
