The project had previously been on track with Universal but jumped ships "a gazillion months ago," a source told the site.

Reubens also co-wrote the script with Paul Rust. No word yet on the plot, but filming is aiming for a February start.

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Big Top Pee-Wee, The Pee-Wee Herman Show and Pee-Wee's Playhouse, Vol. 1 & 2 are already streaming on Netflix.

Best known as "Pee-wee Herman", star of the long-running children's series Pee-wee's Playhouse, Reubens has appeared on TV in everything from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Murphy Brown, Hercules, Everybody Loves Raymond, 30 Rock, Dirt, Pushing Daisies, SNL, The Blacklist and more. The Pee-Wee Herman Show also appeared on Broadway in 2010.
