NBC NIGHTLY NEWS Widens Lead Over Competition

"NBC Nightly News" was America's most-watched newscast for the week ending July 25, 2014, according to Nielsen Media Research data. The NBC broadcast averaged 7.758 million total viewers, widening its total viewer advantages by +24% over ABC and +12% over CBS compared to the previous week. Nightly was the only broadcast to see an increase versus its 3Q'14-to-date average, gaining +72,000 total viewers.
Compared to the same week last season, Nightly delivered the largest total viewer growth among the evening newscasts, increasing by +222,000 (+3%). Year-over-year, Nightly also widened its total viewer lead by +50% over ABC and by +12% over CBS. Season-to-date, Nightly is posting its biggest total viewer audience (8.975 million) since the 2005-06 season and its largest lead over ABC (+989,000) since the 2010-11 season. Nightly continues to post the largest season-to-season growth among the national evening newscasts, increasing by +495,000 total viewers (+6%) and widening its advantage over ABC by +28%. Weekly Highlights: Nightly delivered 7.758 million viewers, leading ABC World News by +406,000 and CBS Evening News by +1,776,000.Nightly averaged a 1.5 A25-54 rating, tied for #1 with ABC and +3 tenths over CBS.
Among A25-54 (000), Nightly averaged 1.745 million viewers, outperforming CBS by +304,000.
Week-to-week, Nightly closed the A25-54 viewer gap with ABC by 18%.
Nightly was #1 with a 1.0 A18-49 rating, tied with ABC and topping CBS by +2 tenths.
Nightly averaged 1.302 million A18-49 viewers, leading ABC by +88,000 and CBS by +298,000.
Nightly has been #1 in rating A25-54 in 295 of the last 299 weeks (including ties).
